Compass Planes:

A compass plane is equipped with a common bench-plane cutting tool, cap iron and lever cap, but the sole of the plane is made of a strip of flexible steel.

The plane may be fine-tuned by means of a large knurled nut which moves the sole to form a convex or concave curve.

The compass plane is ideally suited to trimming slow curves for example the edge of a circular desk where a spoke shave plane would actually follow all of the lumps and protrusions of the timber.

Before using the compass plane it’s always best to saw your wood roughly towards the shape you require then set the sole of the plane to the required curve.

Alternatively you could get an old section of board and sketch the intended curve onto it then set the sole of the plane to the exact curvature.

As you are working with the wood, you have to remember to reposition the work piece from time to time to be able to plane along the grain of the wood at all time.

Router Plane:

The router plane has been the preferred tool for levelling the bottoms of housings, this has now been replaced by the electric router.

Due to its cheapness the router plane can still be found in countless workshops all over the world and useful for creating small recesses for hinges or locks.

These type of planes tend to be screw adjustable to very fine tolerances.

Chisel-like cutters are largely used for levelling square sided channels having a pointed cutter for working the undercut sides of dovetail housing.

This sort of plane will help you level of through housing while using the cutter fitted in the forward position, whereas with the cutter placed to the rear of the clamp this allows you to work in reverse to the end of the stopped housing.

A small fence which is screwed to the sole guides a cutter in a set distance from a straight or curved edge. A depth guide fitted having a small flat shoe closes the open throat at the front end of the plane when used on a narrow edge.

Writing articles is my past time as well as woodworking. Please come visit one of my favourite woodworking machinery sites where they sell all type of different woodworking machinery such as wadkin band saws, wadkin saws and many more makes of wood working machinery

You just found that perfect video on YouTube and absolutely have to have it on your iPod to show your friends. Unfortunately the file type is not compatible. Your first thought was, “How in the world am I going to get this video from YouTube to my iPod?”. Not to worry! In less than 5 minutes you can have the YouTube video playing on your iPod (or any other digital media playing device) by using a free YouTube file converter.

That’s right! It’s totally free and can be done without having to download anything. Not only can you convert files from YouTube, you can also convert video files that are stored on your computers hard drive. No need to buy expensive video conversion software any longer. With the popularity of online videos you can now use a free YouTube file converter to edit all of your favorites. Organize your videos so they’re all converted to the same format. Better yet, convert them to several different file types. That way you can have a copy of your videos on your PC, one one your iPod, one on your mobile phone, and one anywhere else you think you may want to watch.

If you head over to Vixy.net you have the option of converting any video online (you simply enter the video URL) to an AVI (for Windows), MOV (for Mac), MP4 (for iPods/PSP), 3GP (for mobile), or MP3 (for audio only). This is a great converter if you are downloading videos. It takes only a couple of clicks and you are done. Copy and paste in the address of your video into the URL field, select the file type you want the video downloaded as and click start. In moments you will be able to click “Download”. It’s that simple.

Another way to make money on YouTube is to post the most highly viewed videos into your blog or website and put Google Ad Sense ads on the side. As the much talked about video gets searched, its position on your blog can get indexed on the search engines and give you higher rankings. That traffic can view the video you’ve embedded on your site, and perhaps click through on the ads, thus earning you PPC. This is a very passive form of income, and requires some tweaking and testing, but it can work. If you post a video to your site, and link back, then post comments to other blogs, or link it to a social networking site, like Facebook or MySpace, then your friend list may drive traffic to the site.

On the other hand, if you have a video on your computer you need uploaded to YouTube or simply want to change the file format you should check out mediaconverter.org. You have many of the same options as you do on Vixy.net but at mediaconverter.org you have the option of converting to several more formats. In addition to having more formats to choose from you also get to choose audio and video bit rate, video resolution (size of screen), and audio and video codec.

There are many other free YouTube file converter sites available but both of these are very easy to use and have no registration (no SPAM or followup emails), no downloading software (no spy ware or virus worries), and no giving out personal information (totally anonymous). Both sites work with Windows as well as Macintosh computers. Click to it and get that YouTube file converted to your iPod today!
