Difference between Hastelloy C22 and C276

What is Hastelloy C22?

Nickel, chromium, and molybdenum make up the chemical composition of Hastelloy C22. One of the alloy’s distinguishing characteristics is its resistance to both oxidizing and non-oxidizing chemicals. Other metals are protected from pitting, particularly chloride-induced pitting, by it. Chlorine-induced pitting is an unpredictably destructive form of corrosion, and stainless steel is particularly vulnerable. Stress corrosion cracking and crevice attack are also protected by this alloy.

Hastelloy C22 has a higher chromium content than other alloys in the Hastelloy family. Other characteristics include high ductility and excellent weldability. On industrial components, this alloy is simple to fabricate. Sheets, strips, billets, bars, wires, pipes, and a variety of other forms are all available in this alloy. In the chemical industry, it’s used in reactors, columns, and heat exchangers, among other things. Nickel 56 percent, Chromium 22 percent, Iron 3%, Molybdenum 13 percent, Cobalt 2.5 percent, and Tungsten 3 percent make up Hastelloy C22’s chemical composition.

What is Hastelloy C276?

Nickel, chromium, and molybdenum are the main chemical elements in this alloy. When compared to other Hastelloy categories, it has a higher chromium content. When compared to the amount of chromium in C22, however, C276 has less chromium. One of the most important characteristics of this alloy is that it has proven itself and performed admirably in a wide range of aggressive chemicals. This is also one of the first alloys to be discovered, along with a few others.

This Hastelloy is ductile and has high weldability, just like other Hastelloy. Stress corrosion cracking is not a problem for it. Because of the presence of chromium and molybdenum in the alloy, it can withstand corrosive chemicals such as oxidising and non-oxidizing acids. This alloy is highly resistant to pitting in the presence of chlorides and halides. It’s also resistant to sulfide-induced stress cracking. This alloy is available in a variety of shapes and sizes, including plates, strips, sheets, billets, bars, wires, pipes, and more. Nickel 57 percent, Chromium 16 percent, Iron 5 percent, Cobalt 2.5 percent, Molybdenum 16 percent, and Tungsten 4 percent make up Hastelloy C276’s chemical composition.

Difference between Hastelloy C22 and C276

Nickel, chromium, and molybdenum are the main components of both C22 and C276 alloys. In comparison to other hastelloys, they also contain higher levels of chromium. Both hastelloys are made up of different metals, but one major difference between them is that the composition of the various metals varies. As a result of the differences in composition of the various metals in both alloys, their chemical applications differ. Both alloys are important in their own way. Hastelloy C22 is important because of its increased versatility and exceptional resistance to pitting caused by chloride. Hastelloy C276, on the other hand, is significant in another way, as a result of its demonstrated performance in a wide range of aggressive chemicals.
