Explain different flow control valves with characteristics

Valves are water flow control devices. They have many functions on the water flow system. Valves simplify the operations of the flow and direction of fluids. Meanwhile, a few devices such as temperature gauges or flow meters provide signals for flow control valves.

Different types of flow control valves

Pinch valve

Pinch valves are low-cost flow control valves. They are suitable for liquids containing significant amounts of suspended solids. It uses a pinching effect to control the fluid flow. These valves provide up to 100 percent tight shut-offs. The shut-offs are used in food, chemical, wastewater, and beverage industries.

Check Valve

These are unidirectional valves used in pumps, aircraft mechanical systems, and irrigation sprinklers. Check valves have two ports. One port takes in fluid, and the second port discharges fluid. These valves protect the pumps and compressors in the system by preventing the backflow of fluids.

The check valve has the advantage of maintaining pressure and serving as a backup system. These valves are not suitable for pulsating systems.

Gate Valve

Gate valves are compatible with a wide range of fluids and are suitable for high-pressure, high-temperature applications. These valves work as one of the water flow control devices. These valves are not ideal for slurries and viscous fluid. The disadvantage of these valves is that they have a slow response and vibration.

Diaphragm Valve

Diaphragm valves are an essential category of flow control valves used for throttling services. These valves are suitable for applications using corrosive liquids at low temperatures and pressure. Diaphragm valves leak-proof seals that ensure tight shut-offs. The advantage of these valves is that they are easy to maintain and extremely clean.

Globe Valve

Globe valves are linear motion valves to stop, start and regulate flow. These valves are flow control devices just like any other valve. Globe valve is a general-purpose flow control valve used for high-temperature applications. These valves are faster and reliable with a limitation of seat disc wear in partial open conditions.

Throttle valve

The throttle valve is designed to regulate fluid supply to an engine and is operated by a handwheel. It is the valve in an internal combustion engine or just outside. It controls the volume of vaporized fuel charge delivered to the cylinders.

Types of Hydraulic Valves

A hydraulic valve is a mechanical Water Flow Control device. Hydraulic valves control the flow by opening and closing the device. Also, these valves are remanufactured using rigid materials for withstanding high fluid pressure.

Based on the functions, hydraulic valves are classified into the following categories:

Directional Control Valve

The directional control valves are used to direct the flow of fluid through the system. These valves, however, can pause and restart the movement of fluids. They also change the direction of fluid flow. Whereas the prefill valve passes the juice through the hydraulic cylinder and tank. Spool valves control the fluid flow within the system.

The two-way directional control valve is the most straightforward control valve with two ports called inlet and outlet. These valves are used in water faucets, and they can start or stop the fluid flow.

A three-way directional control valve has three working ports called inlet, outlet, and exhaust. They are used in single-acting cylinders. The third working port can block the flow of all ports.

Similarly, there are four-way and five-way valves used in double-acting actuators and air circuits, respectively.

Hydraulic Pressure control valve

This valve plays a significant role in controlling the leakages and bursting of pipes. Pressure control valves regulate the pressure of the fluid passing through the tube by releasing the excess pressure. These valves maintain the pressure as entered manually by the operator.

The counterbalance valve creates dynamic control within the system, and the sequence valve detects extreme pressure. The pressure relief valve is an essential type that sets the pressure limit by transferring excess back to the tank.

Hydraulic Flow Control valve

The flow control valves are used for controlling and adjusting the fluid or gas flow through the system. These valves can maximize the hydraulic system performance.

Flow control valves will monitor and regulate pressure fluctuations in the system. It prevents the flow towards ill-founded system components. This valve takes fluid input from one source and redirects this fluid to two or more sources.
