What Are The Characteristics of Nickel 200 Round Bars?


Nickel is a non-alloyed metal that occurs naturally in its pure form. Nickel is a silvery-white metal in its natural state. Nickel is a ductile and durable metal. Nickel, like many other metals, is resistant to corrosion at high temperatures, which is why it is blended with other metals to create a very effective alloy. The metal that is obtained organically is also long-lasting. Nickel has a carbon content of approximately 0.02 percent. Nickels come in a variety of shapes and sizes, including bars, wires, sheets, plates, coils, and more.

Nickel 200 and 201 round bars

Nickel comes in two grades: 200 and 201, just like any other metal. Nickel 200 and 201 are pure forms of nickel that are created for their exceptional ability to survive extreme circumstances and corrosion resistance at any temperature. Corrosive conditions, alkalis, and acids are not a problem for the 200 and 201 bars. Compared to nickel-based alloys, stainless steel, and low alloy steels, these grades have a higher thermal and electric conductivity. The 201 can withstand temperatures of 600°C, whereas the 200 cannot.

The Characteristics of 200 and 201 are

1. Highly resistant to various reducing chemicals

2. Excellent resistance to caustic alkalies

3. Widely used to handle caustic soda 

4. Good thermal, electrical, and magnetostrictive properties

5. Resistance to neutral and alkaline salt solutions

6. Excellent resistance to dry fluorine

7. High electrical conductivity

8. Excellent corrosion resistance to distilled and natural waters

9. Offers some resistance to hydrochloric and sulfuric acids at modest temperatures and concentrations

The chemical properties of grades 200 and 201 are identical, except for the carbon content, which is 0.15 % in 200 and 0.02 % in 201. Heat treatment and cold working can be utilized to fabricate grades 200 and 201. The heat treatment temperature must be between 1200°F and 2250°F. The ideal temperature for annealing is 1300°F to 1600°F.

Heat treating and cold treating Nickel 200 and 201 should be done with caution because it has an impact on the alloy’s characteristics. Nickel 200 and 201 round bars have a tensile strength of 60-85 ksi, yield strength of 15-45 ksi, and an elongation of 55-35 %. The hardness ranges from 45 to 80 percent, depending on the material. All of these characteristics apply to circular bars.

Applications of Nickel 200 and 201 round bars

Food processing equipment, petrochemical industry, power plants, oil rigs, caustic handling equipment, manufacture and handling of sodium hydroxide, especially at temperatures above 300° F, salt production, reactors, and vessels in which fluorine is generated and reacted with hydrocarbons, marine and offshore engineering, onshore and offshore drillings, chemical and gas industries are the most common applications for grades 200 and 201. Lead wires, heat exchangers, battery components, transducers, stamped or etched fabrications, sparking electrodes, oil rig vessels, plant condensers, and other applications using the element. In aerospace and defense, metal is used in a variety of shapes.
